US Library of Congress to preserve Tupac’s “Dear Mama”

Tupac Shakur. The 1995 hit "Dear Mama" by Tupac Shakur is among the latest recordings to be preserved by the US Library of Congress.

The song was hailed as a homage to mothers who are struggling to maintain a family in today's society.

Every year 25 items are nominated by the public and a panel of experts to be preserved for future generations.

Tupac Shakur, who was shot and killed in a drive-by in 1996, became the third rapper to have material preserved the US Congressional Library.

Then maybe they should put Luke Skyywalker...the original &quot;smut&quot; rapper. There is some historic perspective behind his music as there were court cases on censorship.

For Public Enemy, I guess the song would have to be Fight the Power. I cannot imagine what Grandmaster Flash song would be preserved.

Luke has too much censored songs to mention. The album was &quot;As Nasty As They Wanna Be&quot; and it was banned by a lower court but later overturned by the supreme court. I think they got arrested by Martinez when they performed &quot;Me So Horny&quot;.

these acts don't need the library of congress to valoidate the place they have already earned in hip-hop history, but that said...

they just don't come like this anymore...
